Congratulations to all the contributors to Mapbender, which has become the first project to emerge from OSGeo's rigorous "incubation" process and become an official OSGeo project.

This is the culmination of several months of activity, including a detailed review of software origins and licenses, community function and governance and software development methodologies. With Mapbender's adoption by the OSGeo board, the chair of the Mapbender Product Steering Committee, Uli Rothstein, becomes OSGeo Vice-President - Mapbender.

Details:

The OSGeo board has approved a detailed procedure for incubation of projects. Incubation is the process of reviewing incoming projects, and applying OSGeo guidelines for governance, copyright and license vetting and development techniques.

Approval of this process paves the way for founding OSGeo projects to complete incubation once they have fulfilled all the requirements. It also opens the incubator to new project applications. The incubation process is managed by the Incubation Committee.

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation is pleased to announce the results of the election to fill the four remaining seats on the OSGeo Board of Directors. This election is another significant step in the development of OSGeo. As many members of the community stated, the slate of nominees was extremely strong and it was a difficult task to choose from among them.

With 97% of the OSGeo voting membership submitting ballots, the following persons have been elected to the board:

  • Mark Lucas
  • Dave McIllhagga
  • Venkatesh Raghavan
  • Jo Walsh

OSGeo would like to thank all of the members of the community for their participation in this process, and we especially thank all of the candidates for their willingness to volunteer their time and effort to the Foundation.
